Contact Traflicom about your registration question

If you have a question about registering a vehicle in Finland, importing one, changing ownership, or a traffic rule you are unsure about, send it here. Tell us what the vehicle is, where it came from, what you have already done, and where you are stuck.

What to include in your message

Vehicle type and origin help more than almost anything else. A used car bought privately in Finland, a tuontiajoneuvo from another EU country, and a heavily modified build each follow different paths.

Vehicle status
Say whether the vehicle is currently in traffic use, poistettu liikennekäytöstä, or not yet registered at all.
Origin and history
Where the car came from, how it was bought, and whether a rekisteröintikatsastus has already been booked or completed.
Documents named
If an authority has requested a document, name it — the tekninen osa or the ilmoitusosa of the rekisteröintitodistus, for instance, and which of the two was asked for.
The stuck point
Describe the step you cannot get past. A named step is faster to answer than a general question about the whole process.

Send your question

One message is enough to start. The more of the four points above it covers, the more likely a single reply resolves it.

Messages sent through this site are handled according to our privacy policy. We ask only for the information needed to answer your question.

Include the vehicle's origin and current status if you can — it usually saves a round of questions.

Replies come in the order messages arrive.

Explain the situation as it actually is — we will tell you which procedure applies instead of guessing at an outcome for you.

The questions we can answer

We explain procedures, document requirements, and the order in which steps happen. That covers registration inspection requirements for imported vehicles, what a certificate of conformity changes, and when an electronic certificate can be used in a private omistajanvaihdos — and why valid liikennevakuutus comes first.

Also: erikoiskilpi applications and the three-month rule that follows approval, and how poistaminen liikennekäytöstä affects later re-commissioning.

The questions we cannot answer

We cannot tell you what your specific vehicle is worth, whether a particular car is a good buy, or what an authority will decide in your case. We do not process registrations, act on your behalf, or issue rulings.

If your question needs an official decision, we explain the criteria and point you toward the correct channel rather than guessing at an outcome.

Office details and response times

Visits and calls are welcome during normal office hours. If you are writing rather than calling, include your question in the message so we can prepare a proper answer.

How long a reply takes

Messages are answered in the order they arrive, and detailed cases take longer than simple ones. A question that includes the vehicle's origin, current status, and the document or step you are stuck on is usually resolvable in one reply.

If your situation needs several exchanges, we will say so early rather than leaving you waiting.

If you are coming in person, mention the registration, import, or traffic-rule topic when you book a time, so the right documents are ready on the desk.
